What's happening now on Turnalt Farm
July, August and September 2002
General
In July and August rain continued to be he main weather feature. The
exception was the 24th August which was Neil and Gillian's Wedding day.
This turned out to be one of the best days of summer and family and
guests enjoyed an excellent day at Killcruech Castle in Fintry. In
contrast to the earlier summer months September brought good dry and
sunny weather which was most welcome.
Sheep
Early July was taken up with finishing the marking of lambs and the remainder with the clipping which finished with Duchra hill on the 31st.
The Gathering for lamb sales began in late August and continued in September. Trade at the sales has been reasonable to date.
Gathering again for Winter dipping was the main job in late September.
Cattle
Cattle grazed mostly in the rain in this summer. Earlier calves have now been brought in to the shed to fatten for the Christmas Sale.
Crops
Turnip thinning as usual in July, then Haylage in August and Arable Silage harvested in mid September. Potato lifting began in early September.
