What's happening now on Turnalt Farm

April, May and June 2002

General

Apologies to regular visitors for the delay in updating the site. Apart from some good weather in late April and early May rain has been the main feature of the weather since the last update.

Sheep

April began with dipping and dosing field ewes and then hoggs from Turnalt and Greenock hills. Mineral blocks were put on the hills for the sheep before hill lambing which started around the 20th April. Weather was cool and wet as lambing continued until end of May. In June after repairing fences on Clachaig and Greenock hills, Turnalt and Arichuan were gathered for marking lambs and clipping Yeld ewes and hoggs.

Cattle

With the weather poor again, the cattle were not put out to the fields until the end of May.

Crops

Potatoes were planted on good days 17th and 21st April and this task was completed on 1st May. Wet weather held up the sowing of turnips and arable silage the latter only completed at end of June.
