What's happening now on Turnalt Farm

November 2001

General

November was another very wet month so this hampered the potato lifting and unusually, by the end of the month, there were still a lot of potatoes in the ground.

Sheep

Early November saw the Turnalt ewes dipped and the Cross tup and tup lambs put out with the field ewes. On the 19th all the other tups were taken into the fank for keeling prior to being put with the hill ewes. Some of the Clachaig ewes were gathered into the the hill park for tupping on the 21st and the following day Arichuan ewes were brought into the fank park for the same purpose. Turnalt ewes were gathered into their hill park on the 26th. Since then, Iain has been on Lagandarroch and Hamish on Grianaig daily to check the on tups.

Cattle

There was not much happening in the cattle department in November but there were few good days that allowed the Cattle to go out into the lowground from the shed during the day.

Crops

As in October there was little progress in November with the potato lifting because of the wet weather. Some turnips were lifted by hand as the ground was too wet for tractors.
