What's happening now on Turnalt Farm

October 2001

General

October was a wet month in the main but the good news was the reopening of the Oban Market and the live sales of cattle and sheep. Iain is still recovering well from his hip operation.

Sheep

The 7th october saw Lagandarroch gathered with assistance from friends and relatives. The following week the hoggs were taken to Kintraw farm, further down the glen, for wintering.

The lambs were dipped and tagged before being sold to last years buyer in Fife, the sale being arranged by the Mart. Most of the old ewes were sold at a live sale of sheep in Oban.

Cattle

The cows are now inside the shed overnight but going out to graze on good days. The Cattle that are due for sale in December are have been brought into the shed.

Crops

Potato lifting has been delayed by the wet weather and we are working at this job when the weather allows. Some turnips lifted are being fed to calves and turnip lifting will continue over the winter.
