General

In August we had general good weather. Scotland has now been officially designated free of Foot and Mouth disease. Some livestock markets have now held live sales but a lot of lamb sales have been direct from the farm to the buyer.

Sheep

August has been a quiet month as far as sheep work goes. With only the lowground sheep being put through the footbath to prevent any cases of footrot in these sheep. The figures for the amount of lambs born this year are in the table below with lasts years figures as a comparison.

Cattle

The only Cattle work required in the past month has been the ear tagging of some of the recently born calves. This is to comply with new legislation on being able to trace Cattle from birth. Both bulls are now out with the cows in the lowground.

Crops

Near the end of August the Arable silage baling was completed, the picture shows Hamish securing some round bales to the trailer. Also at the end of the month some of the potatoes were harvested.
