What's happening now on Turnalt Farm

June 2001

General

June was a fairly good month weather wise. No new cases of foot and mouth disease recently in Scotland and a decline in new cases in England leads us to hope the disease is at last on the way out. Farmers still await news on when markets can be reopened.

Sheep

June has been a busy month for sheep work. All the hills have all been gathered and lambs marked and hoggs and yeld ewes clipped. Assistance from neighbours was much appreciated.

Cattle

There has been no change in the Cattle department over the past month, some of the older calves are pictured below.

Crops

Turnip thinning was the task at end of the month and the potatoes have been sprayed to prevent blight. Hay and Arable Silage will be ready for mowing when next good spell of weather arrives.
