What's happening now on Turnalt Farm

November 2000

Sheep

There has not been much to do to the sheep since last month, this time of the year is one of the rare times when the sheep are not being gathered for some reason or other. We now have a picture of the sheep being dipped at the fank in September. The dipping is where the sheep are immersed in a solution that protects them from parasites.

In November it is the time of year again when the tups (rams) get put out to run with the ewes for a couple of months, so that will be ongoing very soon. There is a picture below of some of the tups in the lowground.

Cattle

Again there has not been much happening on the cattle side over the past month or so but we have recently started putting the cows with the calves that will be sold in December in the shed overnight where it is easier to feed them. The rest of the cattle with the younger calves are still outside at the moment.

Crops

Things have been very busy in the crops department with the harvesting of the potatoes taking place over the last month, the weather has not been kind and this has delayed the operation slightly. All the potatoes have now been lifted and it looks like a good crop despite the harvesting weather. Our small crop of carrots has also been lifted.

The next operation with the crops is lifting the turnips and that has just started. The turnips are stored and used as feeding for the Cattle over the winter.
