What's happening now on Turnalt Farm

September 2000

The Sheep

Things are busy in the sheep department again and the gathering of the sheep has started again, this time to sort out the lambs that are to be sold. Turnalt and Grianaig hills have already been gathered and 195 wedder (male) and 95 ewe (female) lambs have been sold. The best of the ewe lambs are kept for breeding and the remainder sold. Prices for the lambs have so far been up slightly on last years prices so that is some good news. Over the next couple of weeks the other hills will be gathered and the lambs sorted and sold so that will keep us busy.

The Cattle

All is still quiet on the cattle front at the moment and the cattle are enjoying the late summer weather.

The Crops

Things have also been quieter on the crops side but the potatoes and turnips are doing very well. The potatoes are almost ready for lifting, we also have some carrots growing which are doing well. The turnips, potatoes and carrots have all been sampled and taste great. The weather with us this year has been perfect for growing vegetables. All the silage bales have now been lifted from the fields and stacked at the farm.
